This hint here is from a German moderator, and is by no means the only way to get going on Caribic Islands. But it might help you get started!
The tutorial tells you the best way to get started, but there are also other options. Build the village centre first, then construct a quarry on the optimum building space. Build another one straight away, as at the beginning you will need lots of stones.
When going on playing, only expand the quarry built on the optimum site, however, since the 2nd one should be torn down quite soon.
Then build a gold mine, also on the optimum building site, and a second one on another free slot. Also expand the one on the optimum building slot first, as this will give you more gold. You can keep the 2nd one, as you can really never have enough gold.
Now start building the lumberjacks, which also have optimum sites - and there are even two of those on your island. So build 2 lumberjacks on those sites.
Once you have your lumberjacks, expand the quarry and the gold mine, so that you should soon have enough basic materials to expand all your other buildings.
As soon as your quarry, gold mine and lumberjacks have advanced a few levels, you can build one or two storages. Two might be preferable, to give you enough space for your raw materials. Keep expanding your raw material productions and your storage, then start expanding the village centre. At level 5 you can build your first barracks, and at level 10 your harbour and a research centre. In order to get more space for those buildings, you can now demolish your first quarry, which should still be on level 1 at this point.
Now you should have the basics to succeed on CI; check out the help and the tech tree for further info!
