I'm new to this game and need your help. I've got five resources and when I attempted to upgrade them I got a message that says I need coins. ok, here comes my question. Can you ever get enough resources to get coins or do you have to pay for coins (like with paypal)/buy them from someone else (like with resources)?

I just found out that I can upgrade without coins. So what's the purpose of the coins then?
